I guess “the duke university scandal” and “who is my baby’s daddy because Im a whore anna nicole smith” was more important than 2 college students getting tortured, raped, dismembered, shot, and set on fire, I think this might be considered a HATE CRIME unless, rev. jessie jackson and al sharpton have anything to say about it, but then again there is no free media coverage for them. They are reverends so I think they should, be giving their condolence’s to the victims family’s, and not be silent in this matter. I only hope the criminial system works and these worthless ASSHOLES get sentenced to DEATH and maybe we can ship them to Texas, because everyone knows Texas will kill these pieces of shit in no time flat. National Media’s Refusal to Cover White Couple’s Murder Suggests PC at Work

The sudden force that the liberal press brought to bear on the falsely accused Duke lacrosse team has been curiously absent on a much more grisly crime committed against a white couple by a group of black youths.
Personally, I don’t think that local crime issues should ever be covered in the national press but if the media are going to cover them, they need to be consistent. My friend La Shawn Barber has a must-read post on the matter:
Early this year, a white couple was carjacked, tortured, raped, and murdered by a group of black thugs. Christopher Newsom (23) was gang-raped, shot and set on fire. There are unconfirmed reports that the killers cut off his penis while he was still alive. The going-to-straight-to-hell murderers made Channon Christian (21) watch, and then they gang-raped her over four days and left her to die. There are unconfirmed reports that her breasts were cut off while she was still alive. (Also see this story and the Wikipedia entry)
I’ve been getting e-mail about this case since it happened, but I’ve been hesitant to blog about it. Flopping Aces published a big post about the case last night, which probably accounts for why I received a few more Christian-Newsom e-mails this morning. Here goes!
I’ve noticed that mainstream media are reluctant to report this story, especially when it first happened. In light of the blanket coverage the Duke “rape” case received, the paucity of coverage in this case seems a bit unbalanced. I mean, isn’t the brutal, black-on-white gang-rape, mutilation, and murder of two people more than or at least as newsworthy as a white-on-black gang-rape (which obviously was phony)? Even if the stripper’s allegations had been true, why was the Duke case burning up the airwaves while the Christian-Newsom case barely emits a spark?
What’s up with the lack of blanket media coverage? I’m not talking about a story here or there with case updates. The media should be swarming around this story. What happened to Christian and Newsom should be all over the airwaves and printing presses.

Update 10:10. La Shawn’s theory is interesting and seems true to me to a certain extent. However the media’s coverage of crime by race is tough to characterize because the same national press that is refusing to cover this story is also the same media that obssesses over missing white women to the exclusion of women of any other race. It also seems true that the press is more likely to show pictures of criminals if they are black than if they’re white.
What to make of all this? My preliminary theory is that the media at both the local and national levels is more interested in the white audience than the black one. That makes sense from an economics point of view considering there are more whites than blacks in America. Accordingly, the media are more likely to tailor news coverage to white viewers. This explains why you continue to see “news” stories about cold cases such as Natalee Holloway or JonBenet Ramsey and are more likely to see pictorial coverage of black criminals than white ones.
Things change at the national level, however, because there is an added component–political correctness. The national press is more liberal than most local media outlets. In the guilty liberal worldview, it’s wrong to promote stories about minority criminality. This explains why the Duke “rape” case was so extensively covered and the lacrosse team not afforded any presumption of innocence and why stories of black hate crimes are underreported. The same thing happens often in coverage of crimes committed by Islamic young people being blamed on “youths” that Charles Johnson is so adept at pointing out.

LWalk18: I think that comparing this case to the Duke case is a faulty analogy- with Duke, you had attactive students at top university accused of a crime. There was also an element of mystery- did the crime occur or not? Once it was obvious that no rape had occurred, you have the issue of judicial conduct.
Here, there is absolutely no question that this brutal attack, rape and murder occurred. To me this case compares to what happened in Jasper, TX or the Matthew Shepard case, both of which got plenty of national media while this case has not.
CaesersGhost: Whatever stories tend to rip the fabric of society apart the most, (pitting whites against blacks, women against men and homosexual perverts against normal people are their favorites), are the ones that the media wallow in. The leftist media love to stir the racial pot, but must also cover up many black crimes to prevent blacks from claiming that they cover black crime unevenly, thereby showing the media are not PC. Glossing over islamic terrorist acts in America, (by largely ignoring references to the perpetrator’s religious beliefs), simply indicates political correctness and cowardice. (The most recent such terror act was the slaughter at Virginia Tech, where the killer found it necessary to display “Ismail ax” on his arm and elsewhere). The coverage of missing white women seems to hold the female population rapt and sells lots of commercial time.
To sum up, the media will saturate the public with whatever disturbs the collective soul, but will temper relevent facts that would tend to make them appear ‘intolerant’ and un-pc. I live about 150 miles from Knoxville, Tennessee and you would think that any kind of sensational crime would be like local news in our part of the country. But such is not always the case.
You’ve probably never heard the names Channon Christian or Christopher Newsome. They were two young students at the University of Tennessee who were carjacked, raped, tortured and murdered.
If you don’t have a strong stomach you probably shouldn¹t finish this column, as the murders were so brutal they’re apt to make you sick.
Newsome, the young man was raped and beaten, they then castrated him and shot him several times. Then they dumped his body by some train tracks and set it on fire while his girlfriend was forced to watch.
Channon was gang raped over a period of days then her breasts were cut off while she was still alive, then they sprayed cleaning fluid in her mouth in an attempt to erase the traces of DNA, then her body was put into a garbage receptacle.
It seems to me that with the headlines and airwaves screaming about such inconsequential things as who is the father of Anna Nicole Smith’s baby and the bogus case against the Duke lacrosse players they could find space to report a brutal crime worthy of Saddam Hussein and his two demented sons.
But have you seen anything on the networks, The New York Times, The Nashville Tennessean? I haven’t.
I wonder if it could be that the five perpetrators who have all been arrested were black.
If this had been white on black crime Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and their ilk would have descended on Knoxville like a swarm of angry bees. I guess the lack of TV cameras discouraged them.
A free press is one of our most precious rights and a selective press one of our most dangerous realities. To suppress or ignore one of the most hideous murders of the decade is asinine and reeks of political correctness and agenda driven formats.
Is reporting the latest lewd episode of Paris Hilton’s privileged life or playing Alex Baldwin¹s raging diatribe for the thousandth time really more important than letting the public know about a cruel and demented crime like
this?
Race should not enter the picture where crime is concerned and every decent human being should passionately condemn such a horrible thing as this no matter what color the victim or the perpetrators are.
Shame on the American media for letting such a violent crime as this slip through the cracks. I wonder what else they’re not reporting.

Scant Coverage of Brutal Crime Called ‘Journalistic Malpractice’

(CNSNews.com) - The national news media demonstrates a double standard in covering “hate crimes,” as evidenced by the lack of attention given to the murder of a white couple in Tennessee last January, a conservative columnist charged on Monday.
However, a media analyst responded that a crime is not necessarily a hate crime simply because the victims are white and those accused of perpetrating it are black.
Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23, were out on a dinner date in Knoxville, Tenn. on Jan. 6, when they were carjacked, kidnapped, tortured, raped and murdered.
According to published news reports, the two were tortured at length in each other’s presence, strangled and shot. Newsom’s mutilated and burned remains were found along a railroad track the following day. Two days later, Christian’s battered and burned body was found in a trash bin.
Five men and a woman, all African-American, have been arrested and face up to 46 charges, including carjacking, kidnapping, rape, premeditated murder, theft and robbery.
The case sparked considerable debate on Internet blogs, but mainstream media coverage has been modest.
AP wire reports of the killings were carried by Knoxville news outlets, CBS News and Fox News, but other major media outlets including CNN, the New York Times and the Washington Post apparently have yet to mention the story. This so angered Mark Alexander, executive editor and publisher of the online Patriot Post, that in a column entitled “Murder in Black and White,” he said the attack was “more than a case study in sociopathic evil. It is also a case study in journalistic malpractice.
“True, there are some 17,000 murders committed in the U.S. each year, but this double murder was clearly far more barbaric, far more monstrous than most,” he wrote. “Yet, this story has failed to attract the attention of the national media.
“Could it be because the two victims were white and the five defendants are black?” Alexander asked.
He pointed to the case in 1998 when “three white men in Jasper, Texas, beat James Byrd — a black man — then chained him to the back of a pickup truck and dragged him three miles to his death. Not surprisingly, Byrd’s murder received national media attention — as it should have.”
When Democratic politicians seized on Byrd’s murder to call for hate crimes laws, “then-Governor of Texas George Bush said there was little need for such legislation — after all, two of the defendants were sentenced to death and the third received a life sentence,” Alexander stated.
“Clearly, hate was a motivating factor in Jasper, but it was also a motivating factor in Knoxville, which leads us to ask: Why do white-on-black hate crimes invariably result in a media feeding frenzy, while black-on-white hate crimes receive nary a mention?” he asked.
Kelly McBride, ethics group leader at the Poynter Institute — a school for journalists in St. Petersburg, Fla. — told Cybercast News Service on Monday that just because a crime involves black perpetrators and white victims “doesn’t mean it’s a hate crime. You have to have specific evidence, such as some sort of racial epithet,” which was the case in the Byrd murder.
The Knoxville double homicide “sounds like a horrible, heinous crime, but horrible, heinous crimes are not the standard for what become national stories,” she said.
One reason the networks haven’t run this story “is because they can’t fit it into a narrative of anything other than shock and horror, and you can find that in any crime story anywhere.”
In addition, “the suspects are not still at large, so it won’t fit into a ‘this could happen to your child’ kind of story,” McBride said. And most importantly, she added, the crime was not perpetrated on a lone white female. The fact that she was accompanied by a man at the time of the attack was a factor.
“The crimes that make national news tend to be Elizabeth Smart [the 14-year-old girl who was kidnapped from her bedroom in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2002], Natalee Holloway [the Alabama teenager who disappeared during her senior class trip to Aruba in 2005] — that kind of story,” she said.
In the Knoxville case, the fact that the alleged perpetrators are black and the victims are white would be an argument in favor of the crime getting press, McBride said. “The national media tend to play into black-predator-white-victim-type stories much more than they’re comfortable with.”
The Patriot Post’s Alexander told Cybercast News Service that he strongly disagreed with McBride’s arguments.
“Although blacks represent just 12 percent of the U.S. population, black perpetrators are convicted by their peers in more than half of all murder and manslaughter cases,” he stated “Per-capita black-on-white crime is far more prevalent than the inverse.”
While “these cases happen with some regularity, they never get picked up by the national press — and that’s my point,” Alexander said. “I would suggest to anybody that you can’t take the hate out of this kind of crime. Who knows whether the attackers said racial things to these victims? They’re dead and can’t report it.
When the suspects in the Christian-Newsom case next appear in court on May 17, he said, “it’s safe to say that they will do so without a satellite news-link truck anywhere in sight.”
